Your pool cleaner cleans the pool. So, it’s only fair that you clean the cleaner.
First, don’t just think about maintaining your pool cleaner properly, because you don’t want to overlook the other bit of the cleaner: the hose.
As with most things to do with your pool, it’s essential to getting your pool chemistry right if you want to get the most life from your pool cleaner. When doing so, or cleaning and backwashing your pool filter, it is a good idea to disconnect the cleaner from the weir.
It is also advisable to remove and not run your cleaner in the pool when performing chemical or shock treatments. This is one of the most common mistakes made by pool owners. The chemicals you add to shock or clean your pool (chlorine and acid) are very harmful to foreign objects such as plastic or skin. So, keep your pool cleaner out of the water while you adjust the chemicals.
Wait at least four hours after super chlorination before reconnecting your pool cleaner.
Finally, keep your weir basket clear of debris for best performance.
When it comes to the hose, don’t leave it in the sun after removing it from the pool. Just as your pool pump and motor require a box to protect them from the harmful rays of the sun, so does your pool cleaner and its hose attachments.
