A son’s first hero. A daughter’s first love. It’s Father’s Day this
month, and we’re joining the country as we celebrate the fathers
in our lives. We’d like to suggest some great gift ideas you can
give Dad for around the pool.

Father’s Day is an occasion where kids can show appreciation for
their fathers and the role they play. For grown-ups, it’s a day to
commemorate the hard work of the fathers and husbands in their lives.

Dads have a huge influence on the lives of their families, especially
the kids. Studies show that children whose fathers are more involved
are more likely to be healthy emotionally, socially, and intellectually.

But first, let’s take a quick look at the origin of Father’s Day. Did you
know that it dates back to 1909? A woman from the States suggested
it, to recognise the role her dad played in the upbringing of her and her
five siblings, after their mom died.

But enough background! You’re here for inspiration as to what to give
your Dad or the father of your kids.

Now, while there are your usual choices, like tickets to a rugby or
soccer match, an afternoon braai in their honour, or even just a
Father’s Day card, we thought we’d give you some suggestions as to
what to give Dad so he can make the most of the family pool!
It goes without saying that you get two types of pool accessories.
There’s stuff you absolutely need, like pool chemicals and testing kits,

but let’s face it, no one wants a gift like that.
And then there’s the other type, where the fun comes in. This is the
stuff that Dad really wants, that makes his life easier, or makes the
pool more fun!

Robotic Pool Cleaners

Boys and their gadgets! This one’s perfect for Dads who have to put too much work into keeping the pool clean. Make it easier for him with a top notch automatic pool cleaner that does a lot of the work for him. Plus, now that he has more time on his hands , he can enjoy more family time!

Pool exercise equipment:
Got yourself an active Dad? Get some exercise equipment to match.
Pool resistance belts that attach to the side of the pool allow him to
swim continuously and work on his cardio no matter the size of your
pool. There’s also other equipment like ankle weights and dumbbells
which give a great low-impact, high resistance workout.
Music systems
Ahhh, music in the background. It goes well with everything, from
floating around on a Lilo to cleaning the pool! Get a floating Bluetooth
speaker and let Dad enjoy his tunes in high-definition, straight from
his phone or PC. They’re waterproof and pack a punch for their small
size. You can even choose one with a built-in light show!

Pool heaters and heat pumps:
Dads are like everyone (particularly as winter sets in and the air gets an ice cold bite) and would still love a nice warm swim. Give him more time to enjoy the pool with energy efficient pool heaters. Plus , and keep this under your hat, you’ll be giving him a gift that’s bound to treat you too!

Floating drink holder:
Who doesn’t want a floating drink holder? Not many people, that’s for
sure! You get different sized ones to keep Dad well-stocked. Be sure
to get unbreakable plastic pool tumblers to go with it!

Waterproof phone pouch:
We’ve all heard nightmare stories of dropping your (expensive)
smartphone in the pool, and hearing the money drain out of the wallet.
There’s even stories of Dad forgetting his phone’s in his pocket before
he takes a plunge. You can avoid these disasters with waterproof
phone pouches that fit all sizes.
The wacky and the weird
There’s no shortage of fun gifts that’ll keep Dad (and you) entertained
for hours in the pool. Take a meander around the internet, and you’ll
see what we’re talking about. Like floating ping pong tables with
paddles (no pun intended) or floating golf games, complete with a
removable flag for the 18th hole.

A new braai:
Kom ons braai! Yes, this one isn’t strictly for the pool, but it’s the
perfect complement. There’s all sorts of shapes and sizes to choose
from, from kettle braais to flat-tops to disposables, as well as
differently fuelled ones, like gas or charcoal, and one for every
pocket. And then, it goes without saying, a dip in the pool to help
the boerewors go down!

So, there you have it. Some great pool-side ideas to show
(and tell) Dad you love and respect him, and thank him for all
the hard work he puts in. Plus, as we’re sure you see, and
best of all, our suggested gifts will have him spending more
time at home!
