Let’s answer the second question first. Why does stabiliser matter? Simple. It helps keep your water clean. But what is it? Pool stabiliser, also known as pool conditioner, chlorine stabiliser, or cyanuric acid, stabilises the chlorine in your pool water, so that your water stays cleaner for longer.
Pool stabiliser is especially important if your pool is outside and exposed to the sun’s UV rays. When UV rays from the sun hit the water, chlorine starts to evaporate, leaving little free chlorine in your pool water. If you are not using a pool stabiliser, your pool’s chlorine will be almost gone in a couple of hours. And that will increase your risk of growing bacteria and algae in your pool.
Pool stabilisers are sold in liquid and granule form. They are also even sold pre-mixed with chlorine tablets, sticks, and chlorine shock. These combination products are known as Stabilised Chlorine because the stabiliser is mixed in with the sanitiser. And the advantage of that? Convenience, and a few less chemicals to worry about!
