Life would be wonderful if everything worked exactly as it should, all the time. But it isn’t like that, and the same holds true with swimming pool heat pumps.
So, what is an air-source heat pump exactly? These pumps transfer heat from the air to your swimming pool. So, they depend on the air temperature. They operate more efficiently in warmer air and less efficiently in cooler air. In the latter case, the heat pump will need to run for longer to heat your swimming pool.
If your heat pump isn’t heating your pool, your first source of helpful information is your pump manual. Go through it, and check everything is as it should be, for your particular system.
Here are the two main actions you should take.
-
- Check that your heat pump is getting sufficient water flow. Without constant water flow, your heat pump cannot transfer heat to your swimming pool. So, make sure the valves to your heat pump are completely open and that your filter is clean.
- Free your evaporator coil from all obstructions. Air-source heat pumps transfer heat from the air to your swimming pool, so they also need constant airflow to heat efficiently. Remove all leaves, branches, and debris from around your heat pump.
