Some things just go better with salt, like roast potatoes, and, yes, your swimming pool!
Don’t worry. Adding salt to your pool isn’t difficult. Follow these steps.
-
- Check your Salt Chlorinator Manual to see what level of salt is needed by your generator.
- Measure your pool’s current salt level with a saltwater test strip.
- Choose a salt that is at least 99.8% pure sodium chloride. Your ideal one is also evaporated, granulated, food quality, and non-iodized salt.
- When you add salt, DO NOT pour it directly into the weir. Place the entire bag or bags in your pool, and once the salt is dissolved, the bag will float to the surface. The salt may take about 24 hours to dissolve and circulate completely.
Don’t overdo it. Just like food can be oversalted, so can your water. If your calculations say you need five bags, start off with three or four. Let them dissolve and retest your salt level before adding extra bags, if necessary.
