Your pool hose has disconnected from the joint in the weir, and is floating around the pool like a Lilo. As a result, your pool cleaner is now on strike and not doing the job it’s meant to do.
This isn’t a train smash if your pool is topped up, although you’ll obviously need to reconnect it. If your water level is too low though, it can be serious, as it could make your pump run dry, and that’s a whole other problem, as your pump will eventually give up the ghost.
But why does the hose come out of the weir in the first place? It all has to do with air pressure. You have a suction side leak on the hose which is pulling in too much air.
All is not lost though. There are several solutions to this problem.
The smart way is to install a non-return valve or flapper valve on the suction line. It’s there to act as a kind of one-way gate. This will hold the hose in the weir, and prevent its escape. (Also, an added benefit of a non-return valve is that whatever flotsam and jetsam has flowed into the weir can’t reverse course and flow back into your pool.)
You can also use the valve near the pressure gauge, with the pump running, to bleed out any air trapped inside the filter. If that solves the issue, watch out for the problem developing again in a few days or weeks.
